Another surgical procedure for treatment of acid reflux is the insertion of a Linx® device. This is a ring of titanium magnetic beads sized specifically for the individual patient’s oesophagus (food pipe) at the gastro-oesophageal junction (valve area between stomach and food pipe), on order to stop acid and other stomach contents from refluxing back up the oesophagus.
This procedure is carried out with key-hole (laparoscopic) surgery and most patients have this carried out as a day case procedure
There have now been several published studies in the surgical literature, which have looked at the safety and efficacy of LINX® up to five years following surgery. These show:
A revolutionary treatment for GORD, LINX® Reflux Management System is a flexible ring of small magnets placed around the bottom of the oesophagus, right above the opening to the stomach, to help prevent reflux. LINX® has been shown to reduce heartburn and reflux, reduce gas/ bloating, and improve quality of life. Some patients may experience difficulty swallowing. LINX® is intended for patients diagnosed with GORD and who are seeking an alternative to continuous acid suppression therapy.
If you are interested in considering the Linx® procedure for your reflux symptoms please contact us at the London General Surgery Clinic your earliest convenience.
Please note, most insurance policies in the UK do not cover weight-loss surgery. However, we will do our utmost to provide the best package for you should you choose to have your surgery with us.
